MOERASDRAAK

he nickname of the city of 's-Hertogenbosch, 'unconquerable swamp dragon', was simplified in 1629. In Moerasdraak ('Swamp Dragon'), the audience is introduced to three lonely souls eternally connected to one another: Berend, who is imprisoned but does not know why; Maria, the sweet, lovely woman who is about to be exiled for two centuries; Frederik Hendrik, whose arrogance and gluttony nearly cost him his life. In various significant places in the Citadel, they bring a fascinating bit of history to life. The piece is partly based on real life historical events that took place 375 years ago: the attack and occupation of 's-Hertogenbosch, better known then as the 'unconquerable swamp dragon'.

The Lunatics will appear at the Citadel again in 2007, this time with an evening fireworks show on Koninginnedag (Queen's Day, the Dutch national holiday).
